Westport CT Christmas Bird Count 2014

This years 68th Annual Westport Christmas Bird Count will be on Sunday, December 21th, 2014 for 24-hour. The Westport Count also includes Norwalk, Weston, Easton, Fairfield and New Canaan. Purple Martins Are Aerial Insectivores

They catch large flying insects found in the air mass. All aerial insectivores in Connecticut are in a serious and somewhat mysterious population decline as pointed out by the Connecticut State of Birds 2103 report produced by the Connecticut Audubon Society. Photography can be used to record the insect prey Purple Martins bring to feed their young. These insects are one part of the aerial plankton found in the seventh habitat. Continue reading
